For the perfect hand rolled cigarette, here are some easy steps. A you really should work with a flat surface if at all possible and stick a sheet of paper under your machine to make it simple or to clean up after you have done a bunch of cigarettes. Sit in front of the rolling machine on your flat area with the movable roller facing in your direction. Separate the rollers and move the apron of the machine down to form a kind of trough. If you want to do a filtered cigarette, before you insert the shag or tobacco you want to insert a filter into the trough. Push the tobacco towards both ends, you want to lay it out as evenly as possible. You shouldn't overfill the trough and it may take a little experimentation to figure out how much tobacco you should use because overfilling the rolling machine can split the apron seam over time. You want to hold the machine firmly with both hands and push the rollers together with both thumbs. You don't want to force the rollers. If you find that you have too much tobacco in there, stop and separate the rollers and remove some tobacco.
Once the rollers are back together, place your palms across the trough and roll both rollers toward you, alternating the downward pressure from your thumbs to prevent the machine from opening. Doing this several times will make the tobacco inside form a nice tube or trough. If you see any loose strands of tobacco sticking out, then you should remove them from the machine.
While keeping the rollers closed, stick a cigarette paper with its gummy side up towards you into the space formed between the rollers. Don't wet the paper just yet. You want to insert the paper into the slot while you use your hands to roll the front roller towards you. When the paper is about halfway down into the machine, then you should stop. If you see that your paper is crooked, reverse everything and reinsert your rolling paper.
Now you can lick the gums edge of the paper and continue rolling until it has completely disappeared into the slot and the unit has made several revolutions. If you think you'll be making a con of cigarettes, then it's convenient to have a moistened cotton swab ready. Once wet, keep the machine closed for just a moment to allow the glue to set, then just pop open the machine rollers and your cigarette will be finished and will just pop out.
As you'll see in the demo video, this type of unit has been around for a long time and is quite sturdy. The whole thing is made out of metal and you'd can expect the years of use with this rolling machine. They've slightly improved the design with this Supermatic II model.
